A 'swimsuit body' is just a body with a swimsuit on it

Updated: Jun 7, 2019

Summer is usually regarded as the most active and engaging of all 4 seasons. However, for those who suffer with body image insecurities, summer is seen far more as a curse than a blessing as it brings about a multitude of triggers that can cause severe anxiety and isolation😰 🔸 Typically referred to as the 'swimsuit season', the shift in weather also engenders an overly critical emphasis on weight, diet & exercise that pressures us to strive for that 'perfect bikini body'👙 Every year when summer rolls around we're bombarded with images of tall, tan, thin & toned women, as well as perfectly groomed and muscular men with bulging...biceps🙊 While there are perfectly healthy models out there, the average weight of a female model is 114lbs- usually with a minimum required height of 5'7. This means that your average female model has a BMI of 17.7 and is therefore considered underweight. On top of this, 98% of shots used in the media are photoshopped 👎

These concepts are not new & yet we still find ourselves staring at these unhealthy and unrealistic images of men and women, wishing we looked the same way🙄 Isn't it about time we asked ourselves...why?! It' not uncommon to see children as young as 12 regularly hitting the gym, posting their 'progress shots' to social media🏋️‍♀️📸 These are young boys and girls who shouldn't give a flying fickle about what they eat and yet they feel just as much pressure (if not more so) to conform to these toxic expectations of beauty😱

🔸 I've said it before, I'll say it again...every body is beautiful as long it is loved and cared for 🙌❤️ I developed my disordered eating habits whilst I was still in primary school. I've struggled with body dysmorphia for 15 years & I can honestly say my best advice for anyone who is battling with similar issues is to remember just one word...balance⚖️ I adore a good salad🥗 but I can demolish a large dominoes pizza🍕 I go for long walks👣 almost every of the week but I don't step foot inside a gym🙅‍♀️ I am fit. I am healthy. I allow myself to enjoy every cuisine imaginable...but I have cellulite, a small muffin top and even bingo wings👌 I may not be a '10', but my lifestyle certainly is 😌😜💪💗 #BeBodyKind
